What might seem small to us, is not to our clients

One of our young clients has special needs. In the past he has had to go to the hospital frequently to get his blood drawn.

When it’s time to get in the car, he knows where they are going and immediately dreads it. The entire process is a traumatic event not just for our client but for his family. There is an incredible amount of anxiety and anticipation around these hospital visits.

We now draw his blood in his own home from his own couch. He’s 16 and we consider ourselves friends. I’m a bid kid myself so we happen to like all the same things, from video games to Marvel movies.

One day we were getting ready to draw his blood and I told him “let’s have a dance off, once we’re down with this draw.”

There we were in his living room, having a dance off while his family laughed on the sidelines. This was the highlight of not only his day, but weeks to come.

Not only are we able to provide peace and far less anxiety during these blood draws, but we were able to infuse joy in the process.
