There’s something about the way I practice now that allows for my life and a client’s life to be intertwined. For example, some of my clients now have a vested interest in my kids!
I had a client who has since passed that my kids would make cards for and make little videos for and even met her a couple of times.
My client was looking at death and she was able to find joy and life in those small moments.
When I was just a nurse at a hospital or in other places, I saw so many people on a regular basis that I wasn’t able to get to know them the way that I get to know them now.
Being able to personally get to know my clients overall, offers them a better service. I become more than just my nursing skills, I become a person. Whenever I’m with clients I’m always cognitive of making sure that we’re there to focus on them and it’s not about me. At times, I do share my life or my loved ones with my clients and ultimately that is humane, and more genuine. It allows for a deeper level of care that our clients, and their families can feel.
