Nothing better communicates our services than sharing real life stories of working with our clients
There is no shortage of unique and strange skills I have developed in my years of working with older adults. Like, did you know there is a USPS Protocol on shipping human remains? How do I know that protocol? Because I did it.
Not too long before the shutdown of 2020 a spouse of one of our clients passed away. It was her and her family’s wish that her ashes be spread by her sister in her family cemetery in Rhode Island.
As happens quite often, not too long after the death of his spouse, he too fell ill and was in need of more assistance. He was hospitalized and eventually moved to Assisted Living where he would now call home.
Meanwhile, his wife had still not been laid to rest. Her ashes were at their home and he now had no way to get them to Rhode Island; and he had one more request – he wanted some of her remains to be scattered by their Magnolia tree in the backyard, her favorite tree.
I located the urn in their home, called him so he could be as present as possible, and scattered some of the ashes on the base of the Magnolia tree. After some research I then went through all the proper protocols to get her shipped to her sister, safe and sound, and laid to rest.
After several months, he and I were walking the halls of his new home and he stops to look at a painting. I noticed the painting he was gazing at was a picture of a Magnolia tree. I said “That was your wife’s favorite tree, wasn’t it? The one I scattered her ashes around?” He nodded and said “She loved when it bloomed. Some years they even bloom twice a year.” He paused and looked in silence then said, “this one is always blooming, every time I walk by.”
This is just a single example of how we humanize healthcare for our clients. At Navigate Wellness, it’s more than just taking care of your aging loved ones, it’s about making sure they are taken care of in the way they want and need.
